Curiosities in Mexico, the US, immigration, and whatever else is going on
Welcome to James Is Writing by me, James Fredrick. I’m a multimedia journalist in Mexico City, writing, making radio, and working on documentaries (radio, podcast, and film).
This is where I’ll be writing things that don’t make it into my work elsewhere. Some of it will be serious stuff, but lots of it won’t. I’m always interested in exploring curious similarities and differences between the U.S. and Mexico. I’m always following immigration in the region. And of course, COVID continues to dominate much of our time. When possible, I’ll try to post some behind the scenes of reporting I’m doing for other outlets.
Coming up first:
Mexico and the U.S. have both failed on COVID. So why no mask war in Mexico?
The pros and cons of observing U.S. politics from abroad
COVID “Hygiene Theater” in Mexico
Mexico’s new intimidating unhealthy food packaging labels
A COVID success story in the unlikeliest of places: a refugee camp
